Research Article Introductions as Hero Narratives

This article describes a strategy for teaching undergraduate students to read research articles (RAs)—called the hero narrative reading strategy. modifies an existing approach RAs (the Scientific Argumentation Model [SAM]), which teaches identify article’s rhetorical moves. The relabels moves that SAM identifies in RA introductions (Motive and Objective), it frames as narratives; are taught see writers making claims—claims they stepping up address critical problem previous has not adequately addressed. can help understand structure of RAs.
